Miss Buckley's Room: Junior and Senior InfantsThis month we learned about the story of Christmas and how the baby Jesus was born in a stable in Bethlehem.
We worked very hard to get ready for our Christmas concert. We learned how to sing lots of songs and dance to them too. We had to learn the words and actions and remember our positions on the stage.
We went down to the ‘halla mór’ to practise for the concert and we wore high visibility jackets so the traffic would see us as we walked down the road.
We really enjoyed performing for all of our families and friends. Our class friend Chatty Charlie came to the concert too, he loved watching the concert and listening to all the children.
We are looking forward to our holidays and hope that everyone gets what they asked for from Santy.

Miss Denton's Room: Senior Infants and First ClassOur students of the week this month were Chloe and Dominic. On the 16th of December we all got student of the week because we worked so hard to prepare for the Christmas Concert.
This month we read the Story of the First Christmas and learned about Advent. We had an Advent calendar and opened one door each day. Everyday we got a new message for Christmas.
We decorated our classroom for Christmas. We put up a crib, tinsel, lights, banners and stickers. We also made Christmas socks and paper plate angels. First class made Christmas wreaths out of paper. We wrote letters to Santa on really cool Santa paper. We hung them up in the classroom. First class wrote Christmas poems.
We read a Christmas story from Mexico and learned the story behind the Poinsettia Christmas plant.
We worked so hard this month to make sure we were ready for the Christmas concert. We learned poems called “The Chubby Snowman” and “The Christmas Story”. Siobhán played the snowman and Chloe played the Bunny that ate the snowman’s carrot nose. Bláthnat and Kevin played Mary and Joseph. Cody, Dominic and Josh were the three Wise Kings. Fionn and Oran were the shepherds. Alice Murphy, Kate, Aisling, Áine and Elizabeth were the angels. Tom was the bright star. Sandy, Mary and John Paul were the elves and Alice Connors was Mrs. Claus. We also sang two songs called “Mary’s Boy Child” and “Jingle Bell Rock”. We learned lots of actions and dance moves. We all had costumes and some people had their faces painted. Jackie Harrington helped us to get all the costumes ready. Thank you Jackie. We were nervous but had a great time performing on the big stage. We can’t wait for the next Christmas Concert.
We did secret Santa in the class and nobody had any idea who their secret Santa was. We all got nice presents.
We are so excited about Christmas and can’t wait for Santa to come to see what presents he will bring.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year to everyone.
See you in January 2012.
Mr. Furlong's Room: 2nd and 3rd ClassTwo boys in 3rd Class made this model out of lego. They entitled it ‘Police Raider’.

The month of December was largely taken up with preperations for the Christmas Concert. 2nd class prepared for their concert item with Mrs. Caulfield. It was called ‘The Hospital from Hell’. 3rd class prepared for theirs with Mr. Furlong. We did The Nativity Story with some rock songs in it too. Everyone in the whole school had a part in the concert. The concert took place over two nights and the hall was full both nights. It was brilliant fun and we all enjoyed it alot.
Leona Buckley, Daragh Doyle and Tommy Doyle all had their birthdays in December.
2nd and 3rd class organised secret Santa in the class. The presents were all given out on the Wednesday before we got our holidays. Everyone was really excited about their gifts.
The boys and girls of 2nd and 3rd class have been very busy over the last few months writing their letters to Santa. I hope he has a really big sack and sleigh because he will need it with all the stuff the children here in Clonroche have asked for.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone.
Mr. Ryan's Room: 4th ClassThis month was a very busy month. We had to prepare for our Christmas concert which took a lot of time and effort from everyone in the school. It all worked out well in the end so it was well worth it! Our class performed “Do Re Mi” and “Grandma got run over by a Reindeer” in the concert, and at the end of the show we played our tin whistles in the school band.
The songs were really catchy and on the last day of school, just before the Christmas holidays, the whole school sang some of the songs from the concert. This was a nice way to end school just before Christmas!
There will be a DVD of the whole concert available in Janurary where you will be able to see the school singing ‘Grandma Got run over by a Reindeer’ and many other songs!
Well done to everyone who took part in the concert, as it was a great success and we did St. Aidan’s proud!
Our 4th class would like to wish everyone who works in, and goes to St. Aidan’s N.S. a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Mrs. Doyle's Room: 5th and 6th ClassOn the 19th and 20th of December we had our bi-annual Christmas concert. Our class did Phil the Fluter’s Ball. At the end of the concert, the school band played a variety of tunes and songs. At the end, Fr. Hayes said some words of praise. We had great fun at the concert. It was a great success.

December was an eventful month, wasn’t it? We had the concert and Santa and plenty of festive cheer. But as always the younger children of the school enjoyed Christmas more than anyone else. So that’s why the 5th and 6th class pupils wrote a story of their own ideas to create stories for the younger kids. But unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to read our stories to the children because of all the preparation for the concert. Maybe next year we could get a chance to read our stories.

We did secret Santa in school on the 21st of December and everyone was looking forward to finding out what present they got. All of 5th and 6th gave a gift and enjoyed their presents. We all got a present, even Ms. Flood. We spent half an hour playing with our presents, some people got sweets or chocolate.

We put up the crib again this Christmas with shepherds, baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph, three wise men and who could forget, the cow and the sheep. We also added a candle to the collection and after the Angelus we would light the candle and if anyone had any intentions, they would pray for it. I hope everybody’s praying worked ‘cos if it worked, it must have been one heck of a Christmas.
