On Monday 15th June, Liam and Talia, along with their parents, attended the presentation in The Riverside Park Hotel, Enniscorthy. They received a copy of the book, a bookmark and a special certificate to mark their achievement. The special guest on the evening was Donna Marie Sludds, an Enniscorthy native and finalist in the recent all-Ireland Talent Competition. Donna performed some songs during the evening.
Well done, Liam and Talia!
Here are their stories:
The Flying Fridge by Liam Flood 2nd Class
The Ramsbottom family lived in Cork. In the Ramsbottom family there was a girl called Nora and two boys called Zach and Iggie.
One Monday morning, the children got the bus to school and Daddy went to work. Mammy went shopping. The family needed a new fridge as the one they had was very old. Mammy didn't know which fridge to buy so the man in the shop helped her and she found the one she wanted.
That afternoon, the man was delivering the fridge but when he opened the delivery van, the fridge was gone. Mammy heard a noise in the sky. She looked up. She saw the fridge - it was flying. She couldn't believe what she saw. The man looked up. The fridge door was flapping, its light was flashing and its plug was swinging. Suddenly a carton of butter and a litre of milk hit the ground.
Nora, Zach and Iggie returned home from school. They heard Mammy screaming and saw loose sausages falling out of a fridge in the sky. Daddy came home from work on his bike. He saw Mammy shouting, the children laughing and eggs falling down from a fridge in the sky. An egg landed on Daddy's head. Next the fridge went higher up into the sky and disappeared. "Well, I'm not paying for that fridge!" said Daddy. "That's the craziest fridge I have ever seen in my whole life."
Strange Noises! by Talia Murphy 4th Class
It was a bright, sunny Sunday morning. A little girl called Maeve had been up all night because of the excitement that she would turn ten today.
Although Maeve was excited, she was weary of her two brothers, Michael and David, who played a birthday trick on her every year.
Maeve decided to play a trick on her brothers this year for a change. She quietly got up, making sure that none of the family could hear her. She crept down the hallway, opened the attic door using the pole and lowered the ladder. Then she went into the kitchen and picked up Snowball the cat. She brought the cat out into the hall and ushered the cat up the ladder. When the cat was safely in the attic, she raised up the ladder and shut the attic door quietly.
At nine o'clock, Maeve's parents and two brothers got up to have breakfast. Maeve joined them. Suddenly there was a loud bang above their heads. "What's that?" shouted David as he ran out to the hall. There was nothing to be seen. He returned to the table. Next there was a thump thump. Michael jumped up in fright. "There's definitely something in the house." His face turned white. Maeve sat quietly. Then there was a scratch, scratch noise. Mum and Dad jumped to their feet. "Oh no!" roared Mum, "there's something scary in the house! We'll have to move house!"
"Snowball is up in the attic," said Maeve with a smile. Dad and Mum started laughing. David and Michael looked embarrassed.
