The Magic Toyshop

by Gary Kehoe, Byron Murray,
Nikhitta O’Leary Doyle and Abby West (2nd Class)

Lauren walked excitedly with her Daddy into The Magic Toyshop. She went immediately to the book section and picked out a book about magic. Daddy sat down with her and they looked at the book which was called “The Magic Spells”. Daddy began to read.
“Abracadabra, make the toys come to life today. Let them all play.”

Suddenly a spaceman came to life. Fire started to come out of his spaceship. The spaceship started to roar.
The spaceman got into the spaceship and the spaceship flew all around the toyshop. Daddy and Lauren had to duck when the spaceship went over their heads.

Next a dinosaur started to go on the rampage. It roared
loudly as it walked. It knocked down all the shelves and books in the book section with its tail. It began to gobble up all the pages of the books. Lauren and Daddy were so scared in case the dinosaur might decide to eat them.

Then an enormous lion started to roar. It started to run
around the toy shop. It gritted its teeth and licked its lips. Lauren and Daddy hid in the toy playhouse.

Without warning, a huge spider the size of a suitcase started to climb up a bookshelf. It had big, square, red eyes
and eight enormous, hairy legs. The spider spun humongous webs as it crawled along. Lauren started to yell because she hated spiders. Daddy felt very nervous.

Daddy raced over to the book called “The Magic Spells”. He searched for the spell he wanted. “Abracadabra, make the toys stay as toys,” he shouted. Immediately, all the toys went back to their places and stayed still. Lauren and Daddy were so happy.

The Magic Pen

by Nikita Buckley, Jessica Earle-Long,
Eva Joyce and Aoife Muldoon (3rd Class)

Lisa lived in a small, untidy, brown bungalow down Trickster’s Lane. She was nine years old and went to the Primary School For Extremely Bold Children. She was in Third Class and her teacher was Mrs. Gentle. All the children in Lisa’s class were very, very bold. Mrs. Gentle was always exhausted.

Lisa was walking to school one Monday morning. She saw something glittering on the lane. She picked it up and saw that it was a pen with four colours-blue, red, black and green.
All of a sudden, the pen began to sparkle. The sparkles were gold and silver. Lisa was absolutely amazed. She put the pen in her schoolbag and continued to walk to school.

Mrs. Gentle asked the children to correct their Maths work after prayers. Lisa couldn’t wait to take out the pen that she had found earlier that morning. She pointed it up to the teacher and flicked it to red. Without warning, Mrs. Gentle turned into a dog. She was a vicious dog with big, sharp, white teeth. She had fierce, red, evil eyes that glared at the children. The children began to shiver with fright. Lisa’s mouth dropped open. She was shocked. “Turn Mrs. Gentle back into herself quickly,” shouted the class.

Lisa pointed the pen at the boxer dog and flicked it to blue. Immediately the dog turned into a nasty tiger.
It began to prowl around the classroom and roar loudly. Now the class was absolutely petrified. They began to scream and cry. “Flick your pen to green, Lisa,” shouted the class.

Lisa grabbed her pen, pointed it at the tiger and flicked it to green. All at once, the tiger turned into a horrible, disgusting, slimy, green alien.
It had a big, round blotchy face with four red, wicked eyes. It had four gooey fingers on each hand and three gooey toes on each foot. It started to squeal at the children in a weird, high-pitched voice. “I am coming to get you all,” squeaked the alien. The children gasped and cowered under their desks. Lisa was now so worried, she was shaking.

Lisa pointed the pen at the alien and flicked it to black. There was a big gold and silver flash. The alien turned into Mrs. Gentle. “I feel dizzy,” said Mrs. Gentle. “What happened?”
“You were about to correct the Maths work,” said Lisa quickly before anyone else could speak.
“Oh yes,” said Mrs. Gentle. “I remember now. I’ll just borrow your nice pen, Lisa and we’ll get started. Let me just change the pen to red.”

The Alien Who Came To Earth

by Moesha Dreelan and Timara Walsh (4th Class)

Marsetta was a female alien who lived on Mars. She was in Fourth Class in Maroetta National School. She was ten years old and small for her age. She had a square face and straight, dark brown, short hair. Her big, triangular eyes were bright red. She had a tiny, flat nose. She had a loud, grating voice. She shuffled as she moved as she was not able to bend her legs. She was an unhappy alien who wanted to escape to Earth.

One Monday morning, Marsetta crept into the spaceship
belonging to her Dad. She flew off slowly and then gathered speed. She was zooming along in the air for a long time. Eventually, she approached Earth and said, “Hooray!” She brought the spaceship down to ground in a field close to Ballyshout.

Marsetta climbed out of the spaceship and walked up to a road. She noticed she was right beside a school. She went into the school and found a door with a sign that said, “THIRD CLASS AND FOURTH CLASS”.

“Oh great,” said Marsetta to herself. She knocked on the door and marched bravely in. The children in the class opened their mouths in shock. They could not believe what they saw. This looked like an alien coming into their classroom.

Mrs. Power looked up from correcting the copies. “Am I
seeing things?” she cried. “This can’t be happening. An alien coming into my classroom. I have been teaching for four years and nothing like this has ever happened before. Stay back children and stay calm. Get the principal, Moesha and tell him to come quickly.”

Moesha arrived back with the principal.
He took one look at the alien and started to roar. “Save me. I have to get out of here.”

Mrs. Power was left alone with the children and the alien. “Get Mrs. Murphy, Timara and tell her it’s urgent.”
Timara arrived back with Mrs. Murphy.
“I don’t know what this thing is but I‘m getting out of here,” she shrieked. She disappeared like lightning.

Marsetta thought this was crazy behaviour. She decided to return to her spaceship and fly back to Mars.
“I think Mars is not such a bad place after all,” she said to herself.
“That is where I belong. These earthlings are such weird creatures. ”

Time Travel To 2030

by Áine Joyce, Denise Kehoe, Talia Murphy and
Darragh O’Connor (5th Class)

Áine, Denise, Talia and Darragh were Fifth Class children in Clonroche N.S. Their teacher was Mrs. Doyle. The children often wondered about the cupboard at the back of their classroom in the right hand corner. It had the words, “KEEP LOCKED AT ALL TIMES” written on it and it was always locked. Only Mrs. Doyle had the key to the cupboard. She never unlocked the cupboard when the children were in class.

One Friday morning, Mrs. Doyle had to leave the class to speak to a visitor. Darragh spotted the key to the cupboard on the table. It had the words, “Key to the Cupboard DON’T TOUCH!”

on the key label. This made Darragh very curious. He put the key in his pocket.

At break-time, the class went out to the playground. Darragh, Talia, Denise and Áine stayed in the classroom. Darragh excitedly put the key in the lock and carefully unlocked the cupboard.
“I can’t believe it,” said Áine. “There are flying cars in the street.
The children quickly left the shop and walked down the street.

A big sign pointed to a school. The children were very intrigued. They followed the sign and came to a strange building. They walked along the yard which was covered over by a glass roof. They came to the entrance door and saw a picture of a face on a monitor.
It was the school secretary Marvin the Robot. “Welcome to our school. You are to go into Fifth Class which is on the top floor. Take the elevator and go to the end of the corridor.”

The children took the elevator to the top floor and nervously walked towards the Fifth Class door. The door opened automatically as they approached and the teacher robot said, “Hello children, take your seats and get down to work straight away.” The children sat down and looked around.
There were twenty-eight children in the class and twenty-eight mini-robots.
"START YOUR MATHS”, ordered Darragh’s robot.
“BEGIN YOUR TABLES,” commanded Áine’s robot.
TALIA, MAKE A START ON YOUR DIVISION SUMS,” directed Talia’s robot.
BEGIN YOUR MULTIPLICATION SUMS, DENISE,” instructed Denise’s robot.

For the next hour, the four children worked non-stop on their Maths. The robots would not allow them to look up even for a second. The moment that each child was finished a sum, the robot would correct it and if it was right, the child was ordered to start the next sum immediately. If the sum was wrong, the child was ordered to do it again.

After the Maths lesson, the robot teacher told the mini-robots to start the English punctuation lesson. The same thing happened – the children had to work non-stop correcting all the punctuation mistakes in the exercise and they could not look up even for one second. The moment that each child was finished correcting a sentence, the robot would check it and if it was right, the child was ordered to start correcting the next sentence immediately. If the sentence was not fully correct, the child was ordered to do it again.

When the next hour was up, the robot teacher instructed the mini-robots to start the history lesson. There were seventy-five questions to be answered. The children worked non-stop for another hour, writing page after page of answers.

Darragh was shocked that this school was so tough. He desperately looked around to see how he could get out. There at the back of the classroom in the right hand corner was a cupboard with the words, “KEEP LOCKED AT ALL TIMES” written on it. However, the cupboard was slightly open. Darragh could not believe his eyes.

Darragh locked the cupboard quickly and put the key back on Mrs. Doyle’s desk. The bell began to ring for the end of break and Mrs. Doyle walked back into the classroom.
“You’re in quick after the break,” said Mrs. Doyle. “You must be dying to get back to work.”
Áine, Denise, Talia and Darragh smiled. They were so relieved to be back in their own class. “We can’t wait to get back to normal work,” they said.
